- In the middle of party prep, taking the roundabout route into J'ville - walking up the top of the hill in order to stroll down the long sweep of Ironside Road, below which J'ville looks like Toytown.
- Pulling off another successful birthday party: take a houseful of overexcited six-year-olds; add refined sugar, a dressups box, and ABBA...
- My friend Suzie offers to make Becca's cake. It's in the shape of a bejewelled crown resting on a tasselled cushion. Jaws drop all round, mine included; the birthday girl, possibly for the first time in her life, is lost for words.
